Anna Sew Hoy
California
USA Broad Fellow, Visual Arts

Sculptor Anna Sew Hoy (Los Angeles) makes work from materials scavenged from the streets of her urban environment. The resulting agglomerations of natural and manufactured objects create forms that are funny, meditative, and poignant. She is particularly interested in expanding her audience by exploring different mechanisms for distributing her work, like creating clothing and audio CDs. She received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her work has been included in group exhibitions such as One Way or Another at the Asia Society in New York and Diamond Hand Grenade at Midway Contemporary Art in Minneapolis. She will have a one-person show at LAX Art in Culver City, California, in 2007. She has been an artist in residence at the Space Program of the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation in New York.

“The grant permitted me to take a leave from teaching to work on my next book ... this was a great relief... invaluable.”
