Sterlin Harjo (2006 USA Collins Fellow in Media) used his fellowship to support himself and his family during the filming of his first feature film, Four Sheets to the Wind. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year to great reviews, and the lead actress, Tamara Podemski, won a special jury award in drama. A few months ago, we surveyed the 2006 USA Fellows to see what they had done with their fellowship money. One of the nice surprises was the frequency with which many of the artists used the funds to essentially re-grant by paying for projects that affected other artists.
