Cherríe Moraga writes poems, plays, and essays that express her perspective as a lesbian Chicana born to a white father and Mexican mother. She explores issues of ethnicity, feminism, sexuality, and gender in her work by weaving together poetry, prose, and memoir. Her book Loving in the War Years has been considered a classic of feminist and Chicana literature since its 1983 publication. Moraga is artist-in-residence in the Departments of Drama, Spanish, and Portuguese at Stanford University.
