Composer, saxophonist, and flautist Henry Threadgill was one of the original members of the legendary Association for the Ad-vancement of Creative Musicians. With Fred Hopkins and Steve McCall, he formed the trio Air, which became one of the most acclaimed avant-garde jazz groups of the 1970s and 1980s. He continued his experimental work with unusual instrumentation with his subsequent groups, Sextett, X-75, and Very Very Circus. Threadgill is considered one of the most original jazz composers of his time. His works transcend musical genres, fusing classical, bop, and free jazz.
