As part of the first generation of Los Angeles Conceptual artists, Allen Ruppersberg helped change the way art was made and perceived. His works include paintings, photographs, installations, videos and books, and his collections of old educational films, postcards, color slides, snapshots, and Life magazines, reveal his fascination with vernacular literary and visual language. As he states, he is interested in “the relationship between high and low culture, the visual and the verbal, or reading and looking, and the need to examine the past.”
