Brian Turner is a poet and essayist. His first collection of poetry, Here, Bullet (2005), chronicles his experience while serving as a U.S. Army infantry team leader in Iraq. Published to much acclaim, Here, Bullet won numerous awards including the Charity Randall Prize for Poetry, The Poet’s Prize, and the PEN Center USA “Best in the West” Literary Award. His essays have appeared in The New York Times, Southern Accents Magazine, and Weekend America. His work provides compelling and intimate depictions of the effects and impact of contemporary military life. Turner has completed a second book, Talk the Gun (forthcoming), about the war at home.
