Julia Galloway

Julia Galloway is a utilitarian potter and professor at the University of Montana, Missoula, where she teaches ceramics. Galloway’s commitment to ceramic arts is evident in her support of the field through her expansive career as a crafts educator, jurying exhibitions, researching ceramics from other cultures, and writing about pottery, in addition to her own making practice. She has led over 250 workshops, demonstrations, and lectures in a broad range of communities including traditional college campuses, crafts schools, and local arts centers. She has developed service-based educational websites as resources for the ceramics community such as Montana Clay, Field Guide for Ceramic Artisans, Library of Cups, Random Acts of Clay and Making History.


Galloway is the Director at Large of the National Council for the Education of Ceramic Arts (NCECA) and is on the boards of Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts and Access Ceramics. Previously, she served on the board of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Her work has exhibited across the United States, Canada, and Asia, and is included in the collections of the Renwick Gallery, Washington, D.C.; Long Beach Art Museum, California; American Museum of Ceramic Art, Pomona, CA; Alfred Ceramics Art Museum, New York; and The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Canada.
