Since 1970 Allan Sekula’s work has consistently addressed economic and social themes such as employment, warfare, and class relations. He is a contemporary realist who subjects categoricalconventions to critical revision and play. Throughout his career he has used performative strategies to assert that his art has a place in the larger world and to contest the assumption of a self-reflexive conceptual framework. His work has been featured on billboards as well as in museums and galleries. Since 2001 Sekula has devoted more time to filmmaking. Hetaught art for more three decades, serving on the faculty at California Institute of the Arts for the overtwenty-two years.
